What is Watkins

Watkins is a company that started in 1868, with natural medicinal products and top quality extracts and spices. It has grown over the years and while it still has many of it's original products, it now offers a variety of everyday household items at great prices.

There are operations out of the USA and Canada so your orders are shipped within the country the order originates from. Whether it's for their own personal discounts or retirement plans or some extra cash on the side, there is something for everyone!

Who You Are

You are Independent. You are a self-starter. You are motivated and curious! Just like any business, to be an entrepreneur you have to have vision and set your goals, re-defining them along the way. You have to work at it, being successful won't come overnight and certainly won't come without some work!

You can do this business so many ways: Selling directly, doing parties or markets, sponsoring etc. One of the biggest trends is social media so if you are good with social media or interested in learning - this is a great place to start! Online is mostly how I work and I do graphics up for my team to use. I have a website directory just for my team and I am always promoting our team to help customers and prospects find you!

So if you are curious, if you have been wondering 'what else can I do?'..give this a thought!

Saving up for Retirement: How Does Your Financial Future Look

July 25, 2017

Your Financial Future: Will You Have Enough Money to Retire?

If you are like most people, you wonder what will happen down the road for your retirement. Of course as we are younger we don't think much about it and not surprisingly, not many people put away for retirement to secure a comfortable lifestyle. As we get older, however, we begin to wonder if we will have enough money to retire and the scary truth sets in: Probably not. At least, not comfortably with peace of mind. There are ways to secure your future though and it's never to late to begin. One of the most popular ways is starting your own home business which not only gives you income now, but will continue to give you money even when  you retire!

How a Home Business Can Help Me Retire

A home business can be run a variety of ways and can be very flexible to work with you now and later when you retire. If you start now, you can earn income which you can put away into RRSP's or use to pay off bills, debts and mortgages sooner, freeing up your income for retirement.

It can also do so much more. Many home businesses are set up to reward you as your business grows - just like any company really. Whether you are doing trade shows or building a team or a combination of both, you can get your business to the point where you are receiving monthly commission cheques based on your sales and team sales.

Imagine for a moment,  if you were making $4,000 from your home business a month. (Keeping in  mind it will take you a few years to get your business established to reach this point but it is totally achievable.) Now, imagine your retirement years. While most people are taking money 'OUT' of the pot (their retirement fund) you won't even have to touch your retirement fund because you are still receiving income. Based on your lifestyle you may decide to take out of your retirement fund but realistically, at retirement age, with all bills/mortgage paid off, $4,000/month is pretty good income. it doesn't have to stop there of course, depending on your activities (ie doing markets or having others do them for you, having a large team etc) you could be making much more. I just wanted to give a number I know is realistic in a shorter time frame with dedication to a home business.

I Want to Retire and Not Work Much

Again, a totally reasonable goal to work towards. With a home business you can build a team that produces sales which you get paid on. Sure, you will still have to keep in touch with your team from time to time, or, if you are making enough income, you can hire someone to work the administration side of things. Leaving you plenty of time to relax and set your own schedule for the things you wish to do.

If you choose a home business that is flexible you can set it up how you wish and have all the freedom you desire with the perks to go with it.

Best Home Business to Secure My Financial Future

In my opinion, I would go with a J.R Watkins Home Business. Sure, I'm a bit biased as I've been an Indep. Consultant for 10+ years, but I've also tried other home businesses (some for fun, others to see if they make income, others just to get the discounts) and by far, I have found J.R Watkins the best one.

With J.R Watkins you have a very flexible business, no auto-shipment policy and freedom to market and sell in Canada and the USA. You can do trade shows, parties, direct sales and build a team. There are plenty of resources available for training as well. J.R Watkins has a wide range of quality everyday items that people 'need' vs 'want' which is important. They have been in business since 1868 (almost 150  years now) and have always treated their consultants good and fair. You can be confident in starting a business with J.R Watkins for the long-term.

I started my business with the goal of building a team, though I have also done trade shows and direct sales for immediate income. I have used the immediate income to pay off bills and debts, freeing up our other income to go into RRSP's  for the future. Then I worked on building a team which has enabled me to receive stable commission cheques that grow year after year in amounts. By the time I retire, which will be early retirement, I will have income coming in with a good size nest egg to draw upon should  I need to.

Why A Home Business Isn't Right For You

September 28, 2016

Why a Home Business Isn't Right For You

Here you are, looking for a home business to start up and you are taking the first correct step: Research! There are tons of opportunities out there but they vary in what they offer. Some have commitments, others have auto-shipments. Some reach a world-wide audience while others are more local. Before you even begin to look at the different types of home businesses though, you need to ask: Is a Home Business Even Right For Me? (A very important question indeed because if you find it isn't a good fit for you, then it doesn't matter what company you choose in the end!)

Home Business Requirement #1: Self-Starter and Motivator

Yes or no? Can you get this business started yourself and motivate yourself to keep going? No matter what the company sends you for 'tools' and support, it all falls on you to get this business up and running. So you are going to wake up in the morning, make your tea or coffee and then what? Will you sit down at the desk and begin your action plan on what your goals are and what methods you will take to reach them? With so many options to conduct and start your business (online, offline) you will need to have a plan and process of getting started. Or will you take your time getting started, play around on social media for awhile, chat with friends, sleep in a bit and start and stop your day at will? (If you agree with just taking your time and starting and stopping your day at will  without making any action plans, while staying in pyjamas all day, you can stop reading here...a home business is not right for you.)

A business is a business, regardless if it's one you start from scratch or one that is what is now called 'turn-key'. You still have to get a customer base and grow your business awareness in your community and target market. Just like any business, things will get tough once in awhile. They will go up and down and it can take awhile for your business to grow. Can you support yourself and drive yourself to keep going with the business, instead of giving up and blaming the business for being weak?

Home Business Requirement #2: Time and Money

When I speak with others who wish to start up their own business and their reasons for wanting to do so, it almost always comes down to either a.) Wanting more flexibility with their work schedule and/or b.) Wanting more money.

However, you also need to have the adequate time and money to put into the business in order for it to succeed. If you think you can just sign up for a home business and then everything will fall into place, you will be very disappointed.  Even if you work full-time, you can still put in some part-time hours in the evening or weekends to begin growing your business. From there, as the business grows, you should eventually find yourself able to rely on your home business for your full-time income.

You will also need to have enough money to get this business started. Depending on what methods you wish to do (online, offline, big trade shows or direct customer sales) your requirements will vary. You will at least need to have some catalogues from the company and business cards made up. Likely you will need to invest some money into getting some inventory.

Be honest with yourself - if you do not have the time to invest or the money to invest, your business will not work. It will peak here and there and eventually flop. You will be discouraged and once again, blame the business for failing. It is not the business though, it is lack of planning which is one of the main reasons most businesses fail. Planning now and being honest with yourself will help you ensure success!

Home Business Requirement #3: Interest

Ok, so you have made it through points 1 and 2. You have the self-starter attitude and motivation to get this business launched and to keep it going. You have the time to invest and the money to get it started and keep it growing. Now, ask yourself: "Do I like this product or service?  Can I stand behind it and support it 100%?"

Whoever heard of someone running a doggie daycare business who doesn't like dogs? Or a hairstylist who doesn't really care about hair? If you wanted to start your own bakery but really didn't like to bake or serve customers, how successful do you think you'd be? Sure you can hire someone to do the work but you are not going to have that kind of money right off the bat and even if you did, you are the brains behind the operation. You still need to have the plans for your future and be the one to motivate your staff. You can't do that if you don't believe in what you are representing.

So while you are looking for that home business to start, look for something that you believe in. Products or services that you would use and would be happy to tell others about.  I often hear people say they are willing to tell strangers about their business and the products but they don't want to harass their family and friends. How silly. If you believe in your products and think they are really good and beneficial, why wouldn't you want your family and friends to know? The products I sell are very good and useful. For example, a salve we sell (the Petro Carbo) is used for a variety of skin problems and even recommended by plastic surgeons to help speed up the healing process. If I had friends or family members who had dry cracked feet or a cut that could scar, why wouldn't I recommend they try this product? So be sure you are happy to represent this company and what they are offering.

Safe and Secure Home Business for Retirement

June 15, 2016

Safe and Secure Home Business for Retirement

Have you been giving much thought to your retirement lately? Most people don't have a plan for their retirement years and will not have enough money to properly retire on. Sometimes a lack of planning and lack of putting aside extra money each month, but other times, life events. Life events can be costly and take away the savings you had, or make it impossible to find extra money to put into a retirement plan.

However, it's not too late, no matter your age. You can still earn extra income to put into a retirement plan and earn extra income to help with day to day bills. Best of all, with a home business that is flexible to work with your schedule, you can build it up so it continues to grow and will continue to earn income for you.

J.R Watkins Home Business

I am going to speak of the J.R Watkins Home Business. I have been with the company as an Indep. Consultant for about 10 years now. I started slow, mostly to fulfill personal orders for my family. I decided to grow this business a few years ago once I realized it could be the retirement nest egg I never had a chance to build up.

A company that is solid, has survived depressions and recessions. It's flexible with no autoshipments or quotas to fill. It won't break your bank and offers top quality every day items that customers need and want. There is a market across Canada and the USA and it's yours for the taking! No territories to be confined to. Market online, do markets and booth sales, or home parties...it's all up to you! There are so many paths to success with this company, it will amaze you!

My Story

You see, I was a single mother for quite some time. Money was tight and I barely had enough money to buy a new pair of shoes to replace the worn out ones with holes in them, never mind put aside money for retirement! After going to college I did get a better job for sure, but I had a LOT of debt to pay off! It took years and years to pay off that debt. Again, I still didn't have much money to put aside for retirement, though, nearing my 40's...I knew I had to start doing something.

I started my Watkins business in 2007 and worked it a little bit. Not much. It was just...there. I opened an online store selling natural products and kept that going for six years, however, it cost me a lot of money. A shift in the online market made it harder to compete with bigger online stores and I tried to keep it going a couple years longer than I should have. Rather than make me money, the company lost me money and I decided to let it go in early 2015. I had recently become a holistic healer and decided I'd rather do that alongside my Watkins business.

My Successful Watkins Home Business

My team grew, my customers grew. I worked hard at my business and it paid off. Bringing in consistent income each month, something I can count on. My debts got paid off, I am now able to contribute to retirement savings but best of all, this business will continue even into my retirement years!

So while others will live on a budget once they retire, pulling a certain amount from their savings, I will be able to live off the income my business is still generating from me. I can modify my work week to work as often or as little as I need to.

Right now, I work 1-2 hours a day a few days a week. I'm still building my business and much of my time is helping others with their business. I have the luxury of balancing my home and work obligations. I can take as many holidays as I wish, spend time with the kids during summer and days off and take part in their activities more.

Free Vacations with Watkins

Another perk is Watkins Performance Program which offers a free trip for 1 or 2 each year (all paid). I have earned many of these trips and will be in line for going to the next one in 2017. It is a great week of fun and relaxation and a chance to meet others in the business including upline executives and people I've spoken to often during the year but never see in person.

One of the things people tell me as a reason why they'd like to  join Watkins is to make enough money to go on a holiday. Well, how about just earning that free trip and then still make the extra money to do with as you please? Sounds good to me!

Fastest Way to Make Money With J.R Watkins Business

I would have to say reaching that Manager level will start earning you the most income. Customer sales in general are the way to go for quickest income. So consider doing parties or better yet, booth sales (Summer is the perfect time for the markets!) and build a team slowly. Building a team helps you branch out a bit and create a solid and stable business. It will help you have a business that helps generate income when you want to focus more on retirement down the road.

Doing markets and customers sales will help you get the most commission on your sales and help you earn extra bonus income including share in a pool for new managers that qualifies you for up to $500 USD every month for 12 months! (On top of your regular commissions!)

There's quite a bit of money to be made with Watkins and since their products are top quality and trusted by customers everywhere, you know you will have an easy time selling them! Watkins is very flexible in letting you run the business as you see fit. There is a training site with valuable information and weekly webinars if you wish to participate plus help from me as your sponsor and the whole upline. There is a reason why Watkins is #1 and has lasted through tough times.

So don't waste your time looking for these 'new and upcoming' home businesses that have no history because they are more likely to fold and collapse. An open market sounds great but no history means it's harder to get the ball rolling and it's more likely the business will end up closing the doors. What sense does it make to put in thousands of dollars and hours/years into a business, only to have it shut it's doors one day. Poof. All your work - done. Even other companies that were well known shut down....they  just didn't have a solid plan to compensate for down markets.

Watkins is almost 150 years old now. Always paid their consultants. Always stayed in business. Always honored their money back policy if the customer wasn't happy. They are an honorable company and you can be confident with them when you join as a new consultant!

What You Get With Watkins

The signup fee is $19.95. Yes, just $19.95. No hidden fees. Catalogues are printed twice a year and you can buy a pack of 40 for around $22..that's 50 cents a piece. You don't have to buy anything you don't want to, though I usually stock popular items for quick sale..your choice! Orders over $100 have free S&H (Bonus!) and you get discounts on your own orders as well.

You get a free sponsoring website (see the one I mention below) plus a free listing on our team website so local customers can find you (top rated in Google). The team website is created and maintained by myself and offered only to those on my team and in my downline.

New Low Start Up Cost for Your Own Home Business

January 6, 2016

Start Your J.R Watkins Business for a New Low Price!

Last year J.R Watkins did a trial run on a new low sign up fee. The regular fee was $39.95 for the year. But, with so many people opting to sign up digitally in today's day and age, Watkins decided to lower that price for people who signed up electronically.

The logic is simple really, it costs less to enroll yourself than to go through Watkins and have one of their staff take your information and process everything.

How The Low Start Up Cost for Watkins Works

The only difference between the two methods of signing up is what you get in the mail. If you pay $39.95 and sign up through the phone you will get a packet in the mail with a welcome letter, a catalogue and some order forms.

With the electronic signup you get your ID# right away and you are set to go! You can order your products either on the J.R Watkins website or via telephone. This includes products you want for inventory or to start using yourself or marketing materials like order forms, tablecloths for doing markets and catalogues!

Commitments and Quotas

There are none. It's that simple. Order as often as you would like. To be paid any bonus either on your own sales or your teams' sales you do have to have at least 100 Central points each month (that works out to about $100) but that's it. You don't have to put in orders if you don't wish, or build a team or order every so many months. The business is flexible and ready to work with your schedule!

Get Started With Your J.R Watkins Home Business Now

This is easy - just go to http://www.RespectedHomeBusiness.com/378193 to take the tour and learn more. From there you can sign up or, if you have more questions, you can email me and I'll be happy to answer them for you!

Watkins allows you to work towards all inclusive paid trips, gives you a free sponsoring website and allows you to reach customers and prospects in Canada and the USA. It's got a solid reputation and over 150 years of trust and integrity backing up the company! A name customers know and trust and  a name you can trust too!

The Appeal of Owning Your Own Home Business

Have you ever thought of owning your own home business? Perhaps you've even tried to start one up before, only to find out some 'hidden' rules that hampered your success. If you have, you are not alone! Many individuals start up home businesses without fulling realizing what they are getting in to.

What is Good (the Pros) About Home Businesses Anyways?

There are many great perks to owning your own business, including having the freedom to create your schedule and balance your work/life schedule as you see fit. Many pros of owning your own home business also include:
  • Spending more time with family (great for stay at home parents)
  • Earning extra income for, or during your retirement
  • Earning extra income while on disability
  • Having freedom to come up with your own ideas and see the success of something you have done and worked hard for
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate for sick days, medical appointments and even having more than usual vacation days!
But what about the cons? Certainly there has to be a downside to having your own home business? You bet your bottom dollar there is! You need to be motivated and be able to motivate yourself when the going gets tough - and it will get tough from time to time. Nothing worth doing will come super easy in life! If you think you can sit back and rake in millions, please let me in on your secret because I'd love to know about that too!

What is Bad (the Cons) to Owning a Home Business?

Seriously though, there is hard work involved, just like any other business, home or otherwise. Some other cons are:
  • Setting up and sticking to a timetable/schedule. It's easy to go off track and while it's great to be flexible you can't get into 'lazy' mode!
  • Feeling inadequate. Face it, many people consider home-businesses not 'legit' and don't realize how much work goes into them. You will work harder than most people do who work for high-end jobs! Still, it takes awhile to get the business launched and stable (like any business) and you just need to ignore people who think you don't have a 'real job'. Especially if you are raising a family at the same time - now you are working even harder and most people will not understand that at all! (Trust me, I know!)
  • No steady paycheque. Hey, I'm being honest with you. You are not on salary. You are commission-based and you get what you put in. Some months are great, some may be slow. As your business grows you will certainly gain stability but you have to be realistic with your money and goals.
  • Here's a pro and a con - No one to answer to! It's great in one way but also, you are on your own. This doesn't mean you don't have anyone to ask for assistance, we'll get into that below! But being your own boss can be scary and if you have that reaction, you are totally human!

What Kind of Home Business Should You Choose to Start Up?

Now, I'm going to say J.R Watkins because I manage a team of over 210 consultants across North America, have been with the company over 5 years and LOVE the products and company itself. However, the real answer is:

Whatever business you believe in!

Do your research and find out all the answers to the questions you have so you can make a sound business decision. Questions you need to ask:
  • What is the investment cost to be a member/consultant etc
  • Are there any hidden costs/fees
  • Any min quotas or monthly sales requirements
  • Can you sell anywhere (online, at markets, do home parties)
  • Are you restricted to territories or where can you sell geographically
  • What kind of support do you have (upline support)
  • How long has this company been in business and do they have a good track record of paying commissions
  • What kind of revenue can you expect to make and in what timeframe

What Companies I Tried Out: Avon, Partylite & J.R Watkins

When I was a stay at home Mom I was looking to make some extra income and something to keep me occupied when my child was sleeping. I had heard of Avon but didn't like that you had to buy catalogues (campaigns) every 2 weeks. So that was out. Plus I heard you had territories so that wasn't my cup of tea either.

I did join Partylite because I loved candles and smelly stuff and was super excited when a rep came to visit me and explain the program. A few things were left out when being explained to me but I still paid over $200 for the starter package and got my supplies. I took some orders from family & friends but was really dismayed when I found out I couldn't sell anything at our local market (Partylite rules). I was also upset when I was contacted by Partylite who told me I couldn't have a website with their stuff on it or facebook page since they weren't into the online presence thing yet. (not sure if this has changed but at the time I had to take down my personal website and facebook page). I also found out that if I didn't place an order every x amount of months I lost my status as a consultant and had to place an order totalling a certain amount in order to 'regain' my status and get my discount. So, that was the end of my Partylite career! Never ordered again.

I had also joined J.R Watkins at the time, mainly because my mom and her friends were looking for a consultant. I tell you, best thing I ever did! I ordered a little here and there at first but soon I had people who wanted to join up under me. That was fine, what questions they had for me that I didn't know my manager did and she's awesome! (As is her manager!) It didn't take long for me to create a website to post listings of all my teammates and to create a program to help them grow their businesses (My college degree in Business Administration: E-Commerce & Marketing certainly helped here!)

Over the next few months I reached manager status and my team continued to grow. Most of my business is done online since we aren't restricted by territories. I don't place many customer orders which is fine since Watkins doesn't have any min order requirements or monthly order requirements! Their start up cost is only $39.95, no need to buy any 'packages' which is great! I continue to work with my team and help those out who want it and I make a comfortable income doing so. The business is stable and reliable and best of all, allows me to work at home, allowing me flexibility with my schedule for the important things in my life!

This is your business choice and one you need to be comfortable with. I say JOIN Watkins! Only because I know how well it works and how well known the products are, but you have to make your own choice and feel right about your decision.

If you want more information on the J.R Watkins business you can get it here....

You can also email me anytime if you have any business questions and I'll be totally 100% honest with you. My job besides being an J.R Watkins Indep Consultant & National Team Manager is to help others make smart business choices and coach them if they want it. This is what I do and I love it!

All the best!

Start a Business, Working The Way YOU Want to

Watkins and Home Business Opportunity

We all have to work. Some harder than others, some at jobs they like, others at jobs they don't like! The thing is, you do have some control over what kind of job you choose to do. So whether you are already working, looking to change jobs, want to supplement your income or maybe just do something as a hobby, take a look at starting up a Watkins business and see if it's right for you!

About Starting a Watkins Business

There are many of these 'turn-key' businesses around but you need to decide on what fits your needs. Turn key refers to just turning the key and 'voila!' ready to go!  Businesses do vary though and  you need to understand the various costs and terms involved.

I won't speak of the other businesses in this post other than to say most have a combination of monthly quotas to fill, minimum order requirements, requirements to buy catalogues etc. Watkins has none of this nonsense. When starting a Watkins business you pay the $39.95 annual fee and you are ready to go. Sure there are kits and catalogues you can buy, but  you don't have to and are not pressured to.

How to Start Your Watkins Business

Once you've joined under a sponsor you feel is ready to help you out - you can look at various ways to run your business. Sell directly to customers, sell online to USA and Canada or even build up a team and focus on managing that team (as I do.)

There is no right or wrong and you can modify and change your style anytime you want. Personally speaking, I never harass anyone on my team and leave it up to them how they wish to run their business. I understand some have joined to get a personal discount on their purchases while others seriously want to make this their full-time job. For those who are serious about the business I have created a special program (see below.)

So once you are signed up, you are read to start selling Watkins!

Finding Your Sponsor

This is important - you need a sponsor and Watkins will ask you for your sponsors ID#. Feel free to choose who you want but be sure they are willing to help you out and that they are active in coaching their team. Look at their track record and how involved they are. I've had many consultants join my team when their own sponsor quit and left them without support.

I run my Watkins business mostly managing our team. I help coach individuals with business information so they can succeed and reach their goals. I do some customer sales but often I refer customers to local reps in my area instead.

I have a website created for our team: GoGreenNorthAmerica.ca that is designed to help customers find local reps. This is for OUR team only and your downline, ranking in the top 3 spots of internet searches and seeing 50-100 hits per day.

I also offer the Advanced Training Program (free as well) to anyone on my team who wants to build their business. It's nothing you need to buy into, just free advice and examples and ideas to help you get where you want to be!

MLM Home Business Opportunities: Good or a Scam

Are you wanting to start your own business but wondering if MLM Home Businesses are all scams? You are not alone. There are many MLM business opportunities out there and a mix of good and bad ones.

The main thing is to look at the pros and cons and see if there are things like hidden fees, quotas or minimum order requirements. Look at company history and talk to some reps to see if you get a good feel for the business.

MLM Business Opportunities - Questions to Ask

The main thing you need to know is: Can you make money? Seriously. That's what this is all about, money!  Yes, people will tell you it's easy to make money but look into it carefully and decide how long it will take to make money and how much you have to spend to make it!

Consider:
  • Start-up costs
  • Maintenance costs (website, catalogs, membership fees)
  • Ordering - minimum orders, auto-ships etc.
  • Commission rates and payouts
  • Market for the product or service

History and Profitability of the Company

Check out the company extensively and see if they have a good history of staying in business! How long have they been around? Do customers know their name and trust their name? Do they stand behind their product and guarantee?

You are about to invest a lot of time into this business so make sure the main company will be around in the next 5-50 years! No sense building up a retirement business only for the company to close it's doors 2 years from now!

Watkins as a Business Opportunity

Yes, this is where I plug in the Watkins Home Business Opportunity! I've been a team manager since 2009 and grew up with the product in our household. Watkins is a name customers know and trust and the company has been around since 1868!

The J.R. Watkins company has been around over 140 years, survived recessions and depressions and continues to grow it's product line and pay it's consultants.

Besides having a great reputation, Watkins offers a good compensation plan and makes it realistic for anyone to start up their own business and make real money both short and long-term. There are no quotas or minimum order requirements. There are auto-ships and other programs but they are totally optional. That means you don't get stuck paying for something you don't want!

How to Start Up a Watkins Home Business

Tamara Laschinsky, Indep. Watkins Team Manager
It's never been easier to get started selling Watkins and getting your business going. You pay $39.95 for the membership fee and you are signed up, just like that!  You get tons of free coaching from myself and The Summit Group including group training and one on one training - whatever you need to reach your goals.

I can honestly say that in the years I've been with Watkins I've made good money, consistent money, and have not had to pay out for things I did not want. My Watkins business has been consistent and helped me meet many new people across North America. I've received many free products and items through their rewards program and have earned enough points for a variety of trips to take with my family.

Everything You Need to Know About Starting a Home Business

Are you wanting to start a home business but have more questions than answers? You are not alone! It's important to fully understand what starting a business is all about and what 'hidden' problems may arise if you don't carefully plan it all out.

Watkins Home Business

If you are on this site it's likely because you follow my blog, or maybe search engine results brought you here. I will use the example of my Watkins home business, but keep in mind, I am also the owner of Natural e GREEN, published author and I hold a business degree (so I do know what I'm talking about!)

No matter WHAT kind of business you want to start, there are many things to consider.

  • Time - How much time do you have to commit?
  • Money - Do you have money to invest?
  • Location - Storefront, home-based or online?
  • Reasons - WHY do you want to have your own business (hobby, more money, new job, challenge)
  • Support - Do you have support from family & friends?
  • Capable - Are you capable of being your own boss? It may sound like a no-brainer but seriously, can you motivate yourself and keep yourself organized?
Any business has ups and downs and new businesses especially have challenges! It's important to have support and be able to persevere when things get rough.Unless you know for sure you want a physical storefront brand-new business, I always recommend getting your feet wet with a pre-established business. We will use Watkins as the example since it's what I started with and am very familiar with!

Starting a Watkins Home Business

Watkins has been around since 1868 - seriously! Associates who join Watkins can sell anywhere in Canada and the USA. There are no territories, quotas or commitments. You only have to pay the annual membership fee of $39.95.

What makes Watkins such a great business to start in are a few strong features:
  • Less risk - Already established, pay for whatever you want to sell, minimal overhead
  • Good compensation plan - They have a good compensation plan, giving associates a base of 25% profit and up to 39.5% depending on volume sold
  • Established History & Customer base - Established and in business for over 140 years, customers know and trust the Watkins name! They've survived recessions and kept their business going in good and bad times
  • Support - Depending on who you join under, there is tons of coaching & support to help you out.
  • Big product line - Watkins started with herbal medicinals and now they have over 300 products ranging from medicine to bath and body and cooking spices! There is something for everyone and many items are 'need' items, not just 'want.'

Learn More About the Watkins Business

I've been with Watkins since 2008 and now coach a team across Canada and the USA. I work with those on my team who want to build their business and help them reach their goals. Recently I updated my informational website to provide the most common FAQs and help people decide if a Watkins business is right for them.

I'm not one to blow smoke where it shouldn't go. I believe in being honest and upfront. Some people are not cut out to run their own business. Others think that a home-business is easy and they can 'get rich quick' - I can tell you that's unreasonable.

Watkins is a business, just like any other business. If you want to sign-up, sponsor a few hundred people and get rich overnight, this is NOT the business for you! Success takes work and patience. I believe in being honest because if you join Watkins thinking you will get rich overnight and not have to work at it, then you are wasting your time and you'll just quit eventually anyways. I've had team members who believed that and didn't want to listen. Needless to say, they didn't do very well and quit within a few months.

If you want to know more about the business and see what's involved I welcome you to visit my website. You can contact me anytime and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. My mission with this business is to help as many people as I can, turn their Watkins business into a successful one.

What Kind of Home Businesses Actually Work and How to Start Your Own Business

Want to start your own business but not sure which ones work or how to start them? You are not alone! There are so many businesses out there that you can start and they always say "Be Your Own Boss" and "Work From Home"...blah, blah, blah. But how do you really know what home businesses work and which ones don't?

Finding a Home Business That Actually Works

Sure, we'd all love to make lots of money and have the option of working from home on our own schedule. That is a no-brainer! But there are some REALLY important things to remember when considering starting your own home business:

  1. Motivation - Do you have it? Can you motivate yourself and keep yourself going even when times seem low and things look uncertain? Face it, any business, no matter if it's an MLM or something you create from scratch, will have it's ups and downs - be ready for it!
  2. Discipline - Being your own boss rocks! (Trust me I know!) But - you have to be disciplined. Yes you can go for lunches with friends/collegues/prospects and yes, you can sleep in (if you don't have kids!) and yes, you can take time out of your day to relax. Heck, you can even plan months of holidays a year - BUT, you have to have discipline to do your job and do what needs doing because there is no one there to kick you in the butt and tell you to get going!
  3. Reality - Are you being reasonable with your expectations? I've seen many people who join various home businesses who are so pumped and hyped up about how 'easy' it can be to do the business that they lose sight of the famous saying "If it looks too good to be true, it is!"  Be reasonable with your business expectations. Any home business will take time and work - period! I'm a Watkins team manager and it's taken me 3 years to get where I am now. It wasn't all easy for sure and I still work at it each and every day to keep it growing and expanding.
  4. Investment - Do you have money and time to invest? No matter what home business you are looking at you will need some additional funds to get started. You may need to buy catalogs or other 'start-up' kits so look into that and be honest. You also need some time to commit to working on your business each day. I've seen people who thought they could just 'join up' hundreds of people and live the easy life without working. (See point #3!)
  5. History - How successful is this company and it's associates? What do other associates say about the business and how long has it been around? Does it carry products (or services) that are essential or 'want to haves' and does it offer satisfaction guarantees and good customer service? Does it deal with minimum quotas or monthly commitments or require a huge upfront investment

Starting Your Home Business

Once you've gone through some of those points above you have to decide what kind of home business to start. Research them and stick with products you like - you can't sell them if you don't like or trust them! Check out the compensation plan and see how likely it is that you can get to the higher levels where you earn more income.

Talk to sponsors and managers and ask questions. You will know from asking questions how trustworthy someone  is and how happy they are with what they do. Find out if there are money-back guarantees and what kind of customer base you can sell to. Find out where you can sell and what training tools are available to you.

Be sure to stick with something you are comfortable with. If you don't like hosting parties, don't do home businesses like Partylite, where most of the sales are all about throwing parties! If you don't want to buy materials every couple of weeks stay away from Avon, as they require updated catalogs often!  Many MLM business models pay the people at the top more so check out the plan and realize how likely it is to make decent money. Some businesses will take time to make steady income, most businesses (even bricks n mortar) don't see big R.O.Is until Year 3, so keep that in mind for measuring.

Starting a Watkins Home Business

Yes, I have to mention Watkins here because I am a Watkins National Team Manager and do fully believe in the company. I tried Partylite before but hated having to buy the big upfront investment and meet quotas. Plus I wasn't a big party person, that wasn't my gig! I didn't even bother with Avon after realizing how many catalogs I'd have to buy each month.

I love my Watkins business and manage a large team all across North America. I started doing sales in 2008 and grew my business. Now I work on helping my team members to grow their business and help them get successful. I am now doing what I love and getting paid for it, plus, it's something that we will use for our retirement. It's an investment that was well worth the membership of $39.95 - trust me! Plus, Watkins has been around since 1868 and offers full money-back guarantees. My family grew up with Watkins in our cupboards and so it's no surprise that many people (like myself originally) joined just to get the discount on personal purchases! With no min orders or quotas, it made total sense! As a manager I see many Watkins associates who are doing great with their Watkins business. Some manage teams like I do and others only do customer sales. So it's not the kind of company where you HAVE to build a team at all. It's your choice and flexible!

Who am I? I'm Tamara Laschinsky, owner of two successful business, author of two books and proud mother and wife to a family who loves spending time together! I have my degree in Business Administration with majors in e-Commerce and Marketing. I've been with Watkins since 2008 and will be honest: It's one of the best home businesses you will ever find! With products and a name that customers trust and a business model that is designed to help you grow, if you are looking for a good reliable business that you can count on - look into joining Watkins a bit more!

If you need more information, feel free to visit my information website where I also post any specials and incentives. Like right now for example, April 2012, new associates who join my team get a $50 Gift certificate. Can't beat that! If you have more questions, feel free to contact me. There's no pressure to join and I have no problem helping you make the right decision. If you are thinking of joining to get rick quick, I'll be 100% honest with you and tell you that's not going to happen!
